When it comes to moving, the fragility of glassware can add an extra challenge. However, by using the right materials and following some simple steps, it is possible to safely pack and transport your glasses in one piece:
- Gather supplies. Start by obtaining plenty of bubble wrap, packing tape, and a few sturdy boxes. It’s also important to have a newspaper or soft cloths on hand for extra cushioning around each glass item.
- Wrap each glass. Lay down a thick layer of bubble wrap on a flat surface. Take each glass and place it carefully in the center of the wrap; make sure not to leave any gaps between the wrap and the glass itself, as this will increase the risk of breakage during transit.
- Pack in boxes. Carefully arrange the glassware so that each piece has plenty of room. Begin by lining the bottom of a sturdy box with a layer of foam sheets. This will provide some cushioning and will reduce the risk of breakage due to impact during transport.
- Fill empty spaces. Once your glassware is carefully packed in their individual boxes, it’s time to fill any extra space inside the box before sealing it shut. This could include adding crumpled paper, foam packing chips or even rolled-up towels or blankets to ensure nothing shifts around while in transit.
- Label boxes. Clearly label each box with its contents so that it’s easier to unpack after arriving at your new residence. It’s also important to write “fragile” on any glassware or other breakable items so that movers will handle them with extra care. Additionally, don’t forget to include information about which room each box should go into once it arrives at the new house!
