Moving a spinet piano is a difficult process that requires multiple people and the right equipment. The size and weight of the instrument make it difficult to maneuver through doorways, up or down stairs, and into tight spaces. To ensure the move goes safely and smoothly, follow these important steps:
- Before you begin, it is important to gather the necessary supplies. You will need a piano dolly, moving straps, and at least two strong people to help you move the piano.
- Place the piano dolly under the spinet piano. Make sure that the dolly is centered and that the wheels are locked in place.
- Carefully tilt the piano onto the dolly. You may need to use your body weight to help get the instrument onto the dolly.
- Once the piano is on the dolly, secure it in place with moving straps. Be sure to wrap the straps around both the piano and the dolly for added stability.
- Slowly and carefully roll the spinet piano out of its current location and towards its new home. Be sure to avoid bumps, potholes, and other obstacles that could damage the piano.
- When you reach your destination, carefully tilt the piano off of the dolly and into its new location. Again, you may need help from another person to get the piano into place.
- Finally, remove the moving straps and store them away for future use.
